European commission with new regulations on gas crisis

news from 20.07.2009

European commission plans to change the criteria, which give formal ground for announcing of ‘gas crisis' in the European Union.

According to the existing since year 2003 regulation of the European Commission, ‘gas crisis' arouses when 20% of the consumers in EU don't receive gas. In this case the European Commission should assign coordination team for solving of the problem with the gas supply.

Instead of this, the European Commission offers to announce ‘gas crisis' if any country of the community stops receiving gas from its main supplier. In the same time the criteria for defining of ‘main supplier' as well as the detailed condition for establishment of joint European coordination council remain subject of discussion.
